Central Arkansas Film Scene is a site for central Arkansas cinephiles. If you love movies and you want to know what’s happening with them in central Arkansas, you’re in the right place.
Central Arkansas Film Scene is run by film critic and essayist Jessica Scott. She is a Tomatometer-approved critic who belongs to critics’ organizations including GALECA and OAFFC. She has written for several online and print publications, including Fangoria, Inverse, Dread Central, Grim, Slash Film, and many more. She owns the horror review site We Who Walk Here, and she is a content editor and staff writer for Film Cred. She has contributed special features for physical media releases like Revealer and served as a short film juror for Salem Horror Fest in 2021 and 2022. You can find Jessica’s full writing portfolio here.
Though she’s a native Arkansan, Jessica realized that she knew more about film events and communities in other states than she did in her own backyard. She got tired of feeling disconnected from her hometown film scene and finding out about local film events after they had already happened. She thought there might be other film lovers who felt the same way that she did, so she decided to do something about it.
The goal of Central Arkansas Film Scene is to provide a hub for local cinephiles. The site will have news about local events; interviews with local programmers, filmmakers, and other people involved in our film community; essays and reviews of screenings; and much more. Jessica has a calendar of events (repertory screenings, lectures, festivals, and anything else relevant to local film lovers) that she would love your help maintaining. If you have any additions or corrections for the calendar, or if you want to connect with Jessica for anything else related to the site, please email her at centralarfilmscene@gmail.com.
This website is all about connection. It exists so that people who live in and visit central Arkansas can learn about local film events and the people involved with them. We all love movies; let’s support the local scene and enjoy those movies together.
